The leaders of the Progressive Contractors Association have claimed that there is an open corruption in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and tenders for development projects are being passed in favour of preferred contractors keeping registered contractors away from the rightful business opportunities.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, the affected contractors have demanded of the Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani to take notice of the corruption and punish the officials involved.
Farman Ali Mandokhel, Abdul Wali Mandokhel, Abdul Malik Babar and other registered contractors of KMC were present in the press meet.
They further said that massive irregularities were committed in tenders worth more than Rs16 billion in KMC recently.
DG Technical Tariq Mughal, Procurement Committee and Executive Officer Feroz Hassan are allegedly directly involved in these irregularities, who ignored the lower bids submitted by certain contractors and approved the bids of their favoured ones.
This behaviour by KMC has been going on for the last three years, they claimed and added, surprisingly, direct tenders are issued to preferred contractors which are later secretly made part of the annual development programme. This corruption in the KMC has adversely affected the business of more than 100 registered and professional contractors, they mentioned.
