Once known exclusively for its premium kinnow (mandarin) orchards, the agricultural town of Kot Momin is now gaining national recognition for a new success story - peach cultivation.
Thanks to the efforts of farmers and orchardists in the nearby area of Mela, the region is witnessing an agricultural transformation that not only rivals but surpasses traditional peach-producing regions like Swat and Abbottabad in quality and timeliness.
In previous years, rising demand for peaches in Punjab's markets meant reliance on costly and often substandard fruit shipped from the northern areas of Pakistan.
However, this trend has now reversed. Mela has emerged as a leading source of high-quality peaches, capturing market attention with early-season produce that meets both taste and aesthetic expectations.
Muhammad Boota, head of a fruit farm, shared that years of research, experimentation, and observation led to the selection of peach varieties best suited to Kot Momin's climate and soil.
"We worked day and night, adopted modern agricultural techniques, and the results are now evident to all. The peaches grown here are not only visually appealing but also superior in taste, fragrance, and quality," he said.
In addition to peaches, the farms are also cultivating pomegranates, grapes, and other seasonal fruits. Boota noted that the grape harvest has shown particularly promising results. He expressed confidence that Kot Momin will soon hold a prominent position on Punjab's agricultural map, becoming a key supplier of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that are both high in quality and abundant in quantity.
This transformation is not only a milestone for the agricultural sector but also a significant boost to the local economy.
It has created employment opportunities, ensured the availability of affordable and fresh produce for consumers, and demonstrated that with innovation, research, and proper resource management, a true agricultural revolution is possible.
Kot Momin is no longer just a symbol of past fertility - it is fast becoming a shining example of future agricultural potential in Pakistan.
