KARACHI:

An Additional District and Sessions Judge South has ordered the transfer of an investigation against SHO Defence Israr Buriro and six police officials accused of allegedly torturing a law student. The directive was issued to ensure impartiality in the probe.

The case was heard by the Additional District and Sessions Judge South, where the petitioner's counsel argued that the investigation could not be fair if conducted by the same police station implicated in the incident. He requested the court to transfer the case to a different police officer.

According to the petition, Shahbaz, a law student, was allegedly picked up by Defence police from a hotel on April 23, falsely accused of being a robber, shot, and then abandoned at an undisclosed location. The injured student is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

The court directed the Inspector General of Sindh Police to transfer the investigation to another police station and assign it to either DSP Siraj Lashari or DSP Abdul Quddus Kalhoro.

If both officers are unavailable, any officer of DSP rank may be appointed.

Emphasising the need for a transparent investigation and justice for the victim, the court ordered immediate implementation of its directive. Copies of the order were also directed to be sent to the IG Sindh and SSP Investigation.
