Rapper Tory Lanez was stabbed during a violent altercation at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, early Monday morning, May 12, 2025.
According to multiple sources, including law enforcement, the 31-year-old artist sustained injuries after being attacked by another inmate on the prison yard.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his conviction for the 2020 shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred during routine outdoor yard time and that the motive for the stabbing remains unclear at this time.
Emergency responders transported Lanez via ambulance to a civilian hospital in nearby Bakersfield. Sources close to the situation have indicated that his injuries are non-life-threatening and he is expected to recover.
Just last week, Tory Lanez shared a photo of himself behind bars, looking physically strong and hinting at an upcoming music release. Despite being incarcerated, Lanez has remained active on social media through his team and is still entangled in legal disputes with Megan Thee Stallion, who accuses him of online harassment via third-party bloggers.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has not yet released an official statement regarding the attack, and the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.
This incident adds to a string of high-profile prison events involving celebrity inmates, raising further concerns about safety within the state’s correctional facilities.
