India's Shiv Sena (UBT) calls on PM Modi, Amit Shah to resign over Operation Sindoor
India's Shiv Sena (UBT) has demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah following the collapse of “Operation Sindoor,” calling it a national embarrassment.
Party leader Sanjay Raut declared that Modi “no longer has the right to remain in power,” citing the operation’s failure and a subsequent US-brokered ceasefire with Pakistan.
The demand follows mounting criticism after the military setback and diplomatic intervention by US President Donald Trump, which led to a halt in hostilities.
Raut also urged the government to convene an emergency session of Parliament to discuss the operation, the ceasefire, and the April Pahalgam terror attack.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi echoed these sentiments, calling for an all-party meeting and parliamentary debate.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Gandhi criticised the government's handling of both the military operation and the diplomatic fallout.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the strategic missteps and demanded that the government clarify its position before the nation.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar also criticised the role of a foreign power in mediating a domestic crisis, raising concerns over India’s diplomatic posture.
While most of the opposition voiced strong disapproval, some figures, like Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, offered a more measured response.
Tharoor acknowledged the ceasefire as a pragmatic move to avoid a prolonged conflict, even if all strategic objectives were not achieved.
RJD MP Manoj Jha raised concerns about US involvement, saying the ceasefire should not set a precedent.
He backed Gandhi’s call for a special session of Parliament to demand accountability. Journalist Siddharth Varadarajan added that the fallout may embolden Pakistan diplomatically.
