Water storage in major reservoirs tops 3 MAF
The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) said on Sunday that the country's total usable water storage in three major reservoirs – Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma – and others topped 3,021,000 acre feet.
A Wapda spokesperson said that the water inflow in the Indus river was 131,100 cusecs at Tarbela against an outflow of 82,000 cusecs, as the level in the reservoir reached 1,459.21 feet, having a storage of 1,386,000 acre feet.
The spokesperson added that the water level in the Mangla reservoir was 1,142.30 feet with water storage of 1,418,000 acre feet, while the level in the Chashma reservoir was recorded at 647.10 feet with the storage of 217,000 acre feet.
"The inflow and outflow of water into the Indus River at Tarbela and Chashma, the Kabul River at Nowshera, and the Jhelum River at Mangla are based on 24-hour average flow, while the reading of the inflow and outflow of water at other locations are taken at 6am today [Sunday]," he said.
Giving details, the spokesperson stated that the water inflow in the Jhelum river was 52,400 cusecs at Mangla, while the outflow was 32,000 cusecs. The inflow in Chashma barrage was 143,800 cusecs and outflow was 114,000 cusecs.
He said that the inflow into the Chenab river at Head Marala was 33,100 cusecs against the the outflow of 13,700 cusecs, the inflow into the Kabul river at Nowshera was 44,700 cusecs and the outflow was 44,700 cusecs.
