Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed in the ongoing legal fight between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, stemming from their collaboration on the 2024 film It Ends With Us.
Swift, a longtime friend of Lively’s, entered the spotlight after her name appeared in text messages cited in Baldoni’s $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
One message reportedly from Baldoni to Lively read: “I really love what you did. It really does help a lot. Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor),” with a wink emoji.
He continued, “You really are a talent across the board. Really excited and grateful to do this together.”
On Friday, a spokesperson for Swift told CNN:
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see ‘It Ends With Us’ until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024.”
The spokesperson added that Swift’s only connection was the licensing of her song “My Tears Ricochet” for the film:
“Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
Lively had initially accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation in a complaint filed with California’s Civil Rights Department last December, followed by a lawsuit a week later.
She also alleges Baldoni and his team ran a targeted media smear campaign against her during the film's promotion.
