Singer Harry Styles was spotted at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City on Thursday, where he quietly joined the crowd as Pope Leo XIV delivered his first public address after being named the new head of the Catholic Church.

Styles, 31, kept a low profile, wearing dark sunglasses and a grey cap with the phrase “Techno is my boyfriend,” along with a blue coat he’s been seen in on previous outings. Despite being a three-time Grammy winner with global fame, the British pop star blended into the crowd, seemingly unnoticed by those around him at first.
The sighting quickly gained attention online, as social media users reacted with surprise and humour to the unexpected celebrity appearance. “Harry Styles is so random… one day he’s at the Grammys, the next he’s in Rome waiting for the new pope,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Another quipped, “Can’t believe the new pope got a glimpse of Harry Styles on his first day of the new job.”
Pope Leo XIV, 69, is the first American—and the first North American—to hold the papacy out of 266 popes over the past two millennia, according to the Associated Press. In his remarks from St. Peter’s Basilica, he urged unity and peace, stating, “God loves us. God loves you all. And evil will not prevail... The world needs [Christ’s] light. Humanity needs him as the bridge to be reached by God and his love.”
Styles has recently kept a varied schedule, having completed a marathon in Japan earlier this year, finishing ahead of more than 20,000 other runners. His representatives also confirmed earlier this year that he has no plans for a Las Vegas residency at The Sphere.
