PTA blocks dozens of Indian websites, YouTube channels over misinformation

The banned content was "spreading misleading narratives to manipulate public perception," said the regulatory body.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday announced that it had blocked 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 video links, and 32 websites for allegedly spreading false information and anti-Pakistan propaganda.

In a press release, the regulatory body stated that the banned content was “disseminating misleading and harmful narratives aimed at manipulating public perception and undermining national unity.”

The move comes amid heightened regional tensions, with the PTA underscoring its commitment to protecting Pakistan’s digital space. “This action has been taken in light of the prevailing regional situation to safeguard national security,” the statement read.

The authority warned that it would continue to monitor online platforms closely and take firm action against any material that threatens Pakistan’s national interests.

“We remain vigilant against misinformation campaigns and will enforce compliance to ensure the responsible use of digital platforms,” the PTA added.

While the names of the blocked channels and websites were not disclosed, the PTA confirmed that all were involved in promoting anti-Pakistan content. Citizens have been encouraged to report any suspicious material as part of broader efforts to combat online disinformation.
