Pregnant woman found with throat slit

Family alleges homicide, police launch probe

The mutilated body of a 23-year-old pregnant woman was found in her in-laws' residence in Kotla Toley Khan, Multan.

According to police, the victim, identified as Asiya Bibi, was five months pregnant at the time of her death.

Her throat-slit body was discovered on the night of May 3, prompting immediate legal action and an investigation under Section 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The case was registered at Police Station Old Kotwali on the complaint of her father, Zulfiqar, a resident of Chah Ghulam near New Central Jail.

Zulfiqar alleged that his daughter was murdered by her husband Rafiq, brother-in-law Atiq, and sister-in-law, following repeated domestic disputes.

He stated that Asiya had been married to Rafiq six months ago, but tensions with her in-laws were frequent.

Around 20 days ago, he brought her back to his home after yet another conflict. Zulfiqar further claimed that on May 2, Asiya's brother-in-law and sister-in-law came to reconcile and took her back to her husband's home.

The following night, he received a call from Atiq saying Asiya was unwell. Upon reaching their house, he discovered his daughter's lifeless body with her throat slit.

The discovery prompted the victim's family and local residents to stage a protest at Chowk Shah Abbas, placing the body on the road and demanding justice.

Protesters called upon Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to intervene and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The protest was called off after police assured the family that a thorough investigation would be conducted.

Police later confirmed that the woman's body had been sent to Nishtar Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Authorities stated that the possibility of suicide has not been ruled out yet and that all aspects—including the alleged involvement of the husband and in-laws—are under investigation.

The named suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.
