Pakistan’s civil-military leadership will conduct a national security briefing on Sunday for representatives of political parties amid heightened tensions with India following a attack in IIOJK.
According to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the briefing will be led by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. It will focus on the current national security situation, especially concerning escalating friction with India.
The move follows an April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists. India accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim Islamabad has strongly denied. Both sides have since exchanged strong statements, with India vowing to target those responsible and Pakistan warning of a firm response to any military action.
In a related move, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the National Assembly emergency session on Monday evening, where lawmakers are expected to formally condemn India’s threat to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, a decades-old water-sharing agreement between the two countries.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly rejected Indian claims linking Pakistan to the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu (IIOJK)
“Pakistan has nothing to do with the Pahalgam attack, period,” Dar said at a press briefing. He also demanded a joint investigation based on mutually agreed Terms of Reference (TORs) and questioned the timing of the accusations.
“This situation is being created by India amid Pakistan’s economic stability,” he added.
