Social media critic of cop detained, beaten in custody
A case of custodial torture has surfaced from Thana Kamar Mushani, where SHO Khurram Shehzad allegedly detained a young man, Mohsin Khan, and subjected him to physical abuse.
The incident sparked public outrage after images of the victim's injuries went viral, showing clear signs of torture.
Mohsin Khan had previously uploaded a video on social media criticising the SHO, leading to a long-standing grudge.
During the SHO's earlier posting, Mohsin had managed to avoid confrontation.
However, as soon as Khurram Shehzad was reposted to Kamar Mushani police station, Mohsin was allegedly picked up without legal grounds.
According to the victim's parents, they were not informed about their son's whereabouts for two days. They were neither allowed to meet him nor given any information about his condition during custody.
Local residents intervened to secure Mohsin's release from the police station.
Post-release photographs revealed extensive bruises and marks on his body.
Protests erupted against what locals termed as "unlawful arrest and inhumane treatment."
Reacting to the incident, DPO Mianwali, Captain (retd) Muhammad Ajmal, took strict notice of the SHO's misuse of authority.
SHO Khurram Shehzad has been immediately removed from his position and placed under suspension.
The DPO has ordered SP Investigation Mianwali to conduct a full inquiry into the incident.
Further departmental action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation report.
