PHC summons top cops over illegal detention
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and SP Cantt Peshawar to appear in person before the court on Friday in response to a writ petition filed against the alleged illegal detention of the high court's project director and his family.
The court also issued an order restraining the police from initiating any legal action against the petitioners and directed that an inquiry be conducted against the relevant Station House Officer (SHO).
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Arshad Ali and Justice Qazi Ahsanullah, heard the petition filed by Abdul Halim on Wednesday.
During the proceedings, the petitioner's legal counsel, Aminur Rehman Yousafzai and Khalid Khan Mohmand, informed the court that personnel from the Cantt Police had unlawfully raided their client's residences and apprehended them without due cause.
Abdul Halim, who serves as the Project Director at the PHC, was reportedly detained for several hours before being released.
