Gallery 6, one of Pakistan's leading private art spaces, celebrated its 17th anniversary with the opening of a landmark exhibition on April 25.
The show brings together a diverse collection of works by 32 artists from across the country, showcasing both emerging talent and established masters in a vibrant display of Pakistan's contemporary art landscape.
The '17th Anniversary Show' features a powerful tribute to five legendary artists who have passed away, including the iconic Sadequain, Mansoor Rahi, Mansoor Aye, Maqsood Ali, and Aftab Ahmed. Rare works by these artists, such as original drawings from Sadequain's Rubaiyyat and Rahi's cubist compositions from 2001, are among the exhibition's highlights.
Contemporary abstraction also takes center stage, with contributions from seven noted non-representational artists including Mobina Zuberi, Aqeel Solangi, and Samra Cheema. Their works reflect the gallery's commitment to fostering experimental and concept-driven art.
Landscapes, still life, figurative narratives, calligraphy, and sculpture further enrich the exhibition. Highlights include realistic landscapes by Nazir Ahmed and Shahla Rafi, intricate still lifes by Mona Naqsh and Akram Spaul, and a striking dragonfly-inspired sculpture by Imran Hunzai. Traditional miniature painting is reimagined by Mutaib Shah and Safwan Bashir, while Bin Qulandar's calligraphy adds a spiritual dimension.
"This exhibition is a heartfelt tribute to all the artists who have walked this journey with us," said curator Dr Arjumand Faisel, noting Gallery 6's role in mentoring young artists, pioneering automated art auctions, and launching initiatives like the Arjumand Painting Awards.
The show runs through April 30 and is open daily from 11 am to 7 pm. Visitors are invited to experience the breadth and depth of Pakistani art as Gallery 6 marks this significant milestone in its ongoing journey.
