Protest staged over suspension of stop at Jungshahi station
Political, social, and business leaders staged a strong protest at Jungshahi Railway Station against the railway authorities' decision to cancel the stop of the Ghaus Bahauddin Zakaria Express.
The protesters stated that the termination of the stop has completely severed rail connectivity for the people of District Thatta with other provinces, including Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They added that the decision has severely affected educational, employment, and business activities in the region.
Led by prominent local figures, including Pir Ghulam Hussain Shah Ratta, Iqbal Raheem Jokhio, Shankar Lal, Ramzan Brohi, Salik Palijo, and Mohsin Brohi, a large number of residents gathered at the station to demand the immediate restoration of the train stop.
Local communities, civil society organizations, and the business community also expressed strong resentment over the decision, labeling it as "anti-people." Civil society groups demanded not only the reinstatement of the Ghaus Bahauddin Zakaria Express stop at Jungshahi but also the restoration of stops for important trains such as the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express and Bolan Mail.
Protesters emphasized the need for an official reservation quota at Jungshahi Railway Station, arguing that passengers should not be forced to travel to Karachi or Hyderabad just to purchase tickets.
Business leaders pointed out that the presence of the Ghaus Bahauddin Zakaria Express stop at Jungshahi had been contributing significantly to railway revenues. They criticized the decision to suspend the stop as unjust, saying it not only harms the local population but also results in financial losses for Pakistan Railways.
