Detained suspect 'killed by accomplices'

In a shootout between the Crime Control Department (CCD) and an interprovincial gang, a detained criminal, Azhar alias Azhari, was killed by his accomplices during a botched rescue attempt.

Police said Inspector Maqsood Hayat and his team were transporting the arrested suspect to Shafiqabad police station for investigation regarding his involvement in hundreds of armed robberies, including street muggings, house break-ins, petrol station heists, and bank robberies. As the police vehicle moved through the area, unidentified assailants believed to be Azhari's gang members ambushed the police in a bid to free their accomplice who was killed in the firing.
