A delegation of Saudi immigration officials will arrive in Pakistan today to review arrangements for the Road to Makkah project ahead of Hajj, which is likely to be observed this year between June 4 through June 9.
The delegation comprising 47 members will touch down in Islamabad on Sunday morning. It will reach Karachi by the afternoon. Both the Islamabad International Airport and Karachi's Jinnah Terminal Airport have been included in the Road to Makkah project. Under the Road to Makkah project, pilgrims departing for Hajj go through immigration at airports in Pakistan, where staff from the Saudi Aviation Authority conduct their immigration process. Subsequently, pilgrims do not need immigration at Jeddah and Madinah airports.
This year around eight to ten counters will be assigned to Saudi immigration officials at each of the airports. Sources in the CAA said preparations at Karachi and Islamabad airports for the Road to Makkah project are in the final stages. The authorities in Pakistan are also in talks with Saudi authorities to offer this facility to pilgrims also at the Lahore airport.
