Police arrested two suspects on Friday for the alleged murder of a 19-year-old Ahmadi man, Muhammad Asif and the injury of another during a shooting attack in Kasur.
The incident, rooted in what authorities initially called "personal enmity," has drawn sharp criticism from the Ahmadiyya community, which claims it reflects a broader pattern of faith-based persecution.
As per the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Saddar Phool Nagar Police Station, five armed assailants opened fire on the victims, killing Asif en route to a hospital and critically injuring his cousin, who was later transferred to Lahore for treatment. Charges include murder, rioting, and unlawful assembly under Sections 302, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Essa Khan confirmed two arrests and ongoing raids to apprehend the remaining suspects. He disclosed that one detained individual had ties to the hardline Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and had previously exploited religious tensions for personal disputes in 2022.
