Suspect, cop injured on court premises

A suspect and a police constable were injured on the court premises when an armed man opened fire on the suspect, who was brought to the court for a court hearing in the jurisdiction of the Taxila police station.

The police constable, Abid, despite being injured, managed to arrest the person who opened fire and seize the pistol from him. As soon as the incident was reported, SP Potohar Talha Wali reached the spot and supervised the evidence collection process.

According to the police, the shooting took place when the suspect, Qadeer, was brought to court for a hearing. Meanwhile, an armed individual opened fire at the accused, due to which both the accused and the police constable, Abid, suffered injuries. The constable, risking his life, tried to save the accused, during which he was shot and wounded.

Police officials said that Qadeer was brought to court in connection with a 2019 murder and assault case. Upon learning of the incident, CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice and ordered SP Potohar to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a report.

The arrested assailant has been identified as Ameen Shah. According to the police, the incident appears to result from an old rivalry. Both injured individuals were shifted to the hospital, where their condition was stable.
