Sea breeze returns to Karachi, offering break from scorching heat

Air quality in the city, however, remains unhealthy.

The recent heat spell in Karachi has eased with the partial return of the sea breeze, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Thursday.

The department expects the breeze to fully resume by the evening, gradually lowering temperatures across the city. Karachi’s maximum temperature is forecast to hover around 38°C on Thursday.

Humidity levels stood at 74% as of Thursday morning, while winds were recorded at 10 km/h from the southwest.

Despite the improved conditions, air quality in the city remains categorised as unhealthy. The Air Quality Index measured pollutant concentration at 115, indicating a persistently poor environment.

Elsewhere in Pakistan, hot and dry weather is likely to prevail in most regions over the next twelve hours.

Light rain and thunderstorms are possible in isolated areas of upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Morning temperatures in key cities included 15°C in Islamabad, 24°C in Lahore, 26°C in Karachi, 19°C in Peshawar, 13°C in Quetta, 14°C in Gilgit, 11°C in Murree and 18°C in Muzaffarabad.
