In a first for Pakistan, construction of the Jinnah Square Murree Road Underpass in Islamabad is set to be completed within just 35 days, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. The project is part of a larger signal-free corridor initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion from Islamabad Airport to Murree.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the site to inspect progress and directed officials to ensure timely completion without compromising quality. “Speed is important, but quality must not be compromised,” he emphasized during the visit.

The underpass, which will span 479 meters and feature three traffic lanes, is also part of a broader effort to improve connectivity and reduce travel time.

The plan includes widening an adjoining bridge with two additional lanes on each side, and expanding four nearby slip roads to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Minister Naqvi also instructed the authorities to manage alternate traffic arrangements during construction to minimize inconvenience to the public. He said the signal-free corridor will benefit both local residents and tourists by addressing long-standing traffic congestion issues in the capital and improving access to Murree.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the minister on the project’s status, stating that work on the structure and road network is progressing rapidly. He expressed confidence that the project will meet the ambitious deadline.
