WhatsApp introduces in-app translation feature
Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has started deploying its long-anticipated chat and channel translation feature to selected Android users enrolled in its beta programme.
According to WABetaInfo, the new capability is available to those using beta version 2.25.12.25, with a broader public rollout expected in the near future.

This update enables users to translate messages written in Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian directly within the app.
A key advantage of the feature is that translations are performed on-device, allowing functionality even without an internet connection.
To utilise the tool, users must first download specific language packs, either individually or as part of a multi-language detection pack.
Once installed, the translation toggle can be found within the chat information screen and can be activated for both individual and group conversations.
Additionally, users have the option to translate individual messages manually by long-pressing a message and selecting “Translate”.
While the on-device system may not match the precision of cloud-based translation services due to its lightweight nature, WhatsApp is inviting users to submit feedback to refine the tool. Importantly, all feedback is processed without sending message content to Meta, preserving user privacy.
Beta testers who have already received the update are encouraged to share their experiences to help enhance the feature ahead of a wider launch.
