Islamabad, Rawalpindi lashed by hail again
Islamabad and Rawalpindi were once again hit by rain and hail on Sunday, days after a powerful hailstorm battered the region. While no major damage has been reported so far, authorities remain on high alert amid forecasts of continued severe weather.
Residents said Saturday's hailstones were smaller in size compared to the unusually large ones that struck the twin cities on Wednesday.
That earlier storm caused significant damage, shattering vehicle windshields, breaking windowpanes, and uprooting trees due to strong gusts of wind.
Although today’s weather was intense, it was comparatively milder, and officials confirmed they had not received any reports of injuries or property loss. However, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of more rainfall, strong winds, and possible hailstorms over the next 8 to 10 hours.
In its advisory, the NDMA cautioned that heavy rain and winds could result in falling trees and power outages. The authority also warned that storms and hail could threaten vulnerable buildings and standing crops, while reduced visibility on rain-slicked roads may increase the risk of accidents.
The NDMA has urged residents to stay updated on weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety guidance through its mobile application.
Travelers have also been advised to check traffic updates and exercise caution, particularly in landslide-prone regions.
Meanwhile, in response to light rain and hail reported on Sunday, many residents in the twin cities moved their vehicles under shelter as a precaution. Light to moderate showers persisted throughout the day in several areas.
