Senate committee: Changes suggested in delimitation law
The upper house passes new Nepra rules.
ISLAMABAD:
The Senate’s standing committee on law and justice submitted its recommendations on the Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill 2011.
Introduced by Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio, the bill proposes amendments in the Delimitation of Constituencies Act, 1974. In this respect, amendments have been proposed in Section 4,5,7,8 and 9 of the Act.
During the Musharraf regime, delimitation of constituencies was handled by non-electoral agencies instead of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Senate passed The Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power (Amendment) Bill, 2011 despite the objection of opposition parties.
The bill proposes amendment to Section 31, Act XL of 1997. According to new rules, Nepra may, on a monthly basis and not later than a period of seven days, make adjustments in the approved tariff on account of, any variations in fuel charges and, policy guidelines as the federal government may issue and, notify the tariff adjusted in the official gazette.
