Man sentenced to 37 years in fake government job fraud case

A court in Rawalpindi sentenced a government driver to 37 years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding citizens by falsely promising them government jobs in exchange for large sums of money, Express News reported on Friday.

The verdict was announced by Special Judge Central Abdul Rehman Arif.

As soon as the judgment was pronounced, the convict was handcuffed and taken into custody from the courtroom.

According to court proceedings, the convict, who worked as a driver for a government department, had extorted a total of Rs4.66 million from an individual under the pretext of securing a government position.

The court found the evidence against him conclusive.

Alongside the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs2 million on the convict. Furthermore, he has been ordered to pay Rs3.74 million to the defrauded citizen as compensation.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Wing had registered the case against the accused last year.
