A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Union Council Chairman Amir Bhashani was shot dead in a targeted attack in Orangi Town’s Gulshan-e-Zia area on Thursday night, police said.
Bhashani, also known as Amir Bhutto, was sitting inside a camp office near his home on Street Number One, Gulshan-e-Zia, when unidentified assailants opened fire around 7:50 PM.
A case was filed at the Pakistan Bazar Police Station under charges of murder and anti-terrorism, with three unidentified gunmen named as suspects by his father Muhammad Kalam.
Kalam, in his statement, mentioned that around 7:50 PM, he heard gunshots coming from the camp office.
Two of the assailants ran out of the office, jumped on a motorcycle, and fled the scene, leaving Amir critically wounded.
Kalam rushed to the office and found his son injured. He immediately took Amir to Bismillah Chowk on a motorcycle, from where an ambulance transported him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Unfortunately, Amir succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Kalam believes that his son was murdered for unknown reasons, possibly linked to a personal or political dispute. However, the authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
The PPP has condemned the killing, demanding swift action from the authorities.
