Heatwave to grip Karachi from April 20 to 23: PMD

Citizens are urged to minimise outdoor exposure during peak sunlight hours and stay well-hydrated

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi, warning that maximum daytime temperatures are expected to increase 4 to 6°C above normal.

The heatwave is anticipated to persist from April 20 to April 23, during which temperatures may exceed 40°C.

During this period, humidity levels in the city are forecast to remain around 50% during the day and drop to approximately 25% in the evening, increasing the discomfort index for residents.

Authorities have advised the public—particularly children, the elderly, and women—to take precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, a slight relief from ongoing heatwave conditions is expected in the upper and central districts of Sindh, where occasional gusty winds are likely.

Rain windstorm and thunderstorm is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Pothohar region, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan while, heavy rain with hailstorm is likely at isolated places during the next twelve hours.
