Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their winning streak in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) with a convincing four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

MI began their chase confidently, with opener Rohit Sharma playing some elegant shots in the powerplay, scoring 26 off 15 balls before a soft dismissal to Pat Cummins (3/26).

Rohit’s opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, also looked solid early on, hitting Eshan Malinga (2/36) for three consecutive fours. Rickelton was fortunate to be reprieved on 21 after being caught at cover, as wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen's gloves were ahead of the stumps when Rickelton played the shot.

However, he was dismissed in the following over for 31 off 23 balls, trying to hit a third consecutive boundary against Harshal Patel.

Will Jacks (36 off 26), Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15), Tilak Varma (21* off 17), and Hardik Pandya (21 off 9) then made crucial contributions to guide MI home.

Earlier, SRH struggled against MI’s disciplined bowling attack, with the ball holding up on the surface and making stroke play difficult. Despite a few fortunate edges racing to the boundary, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head could only manage 50 runs from 39 balls, failing to hit a single six.

The breakthrough came when Pandya, who had recovered from an injury scare, removed Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) with a diving catch at deep point.

Ishan Kishan, playing his first match against MI after representing them for seven seasons, lasted just three balls before being stumped by Will Jacks for 2 (3), leaving SRH at 68/2 in the eighth over.

Head’s struggles continued, and despite a reprieve from Pandya, he was dismissed for 28 (29) by Jacks, caught at long-off by Mitchell Santner.

SRH’s batting faltered as MI bowlers continued to mix their pace and exploit the slowness of the pitch. The SRH line-up, typically known for big-hitting, struggled to get going, managing their first six only in the 17th over.

Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28) and Aniket Verma (18* off 8) provided some late resistance, lifting Hyderabad to 162/5 in their 20 overs.

MI’s Will Jacks was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 2/14 from three overs, while Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) and Trent Boult (1/29) also delivered effective spells to choke SRH’s batting.

The comfortable win help Mumbai Indians move up to seventh in the points table with three wins from seven matches.

On the other hand, SRH, with just two wins from seven games, find themselves languishing at the ninth spot
