Heatwave continues in Karachi as Shaheed Benazirabad hits 49°C
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast stronger-than-usual winds in Karachi, while several rural districts in Sindh continue to experience extreme heat.
The highest recorded temperature on Thursday was 49°C in Shaheed Benazirabad, which was 8.4°C above normal. According to the PMD, Karachi is currently facing hot and humid conditions due to elevated humidity levels.
This has resulted in the city feeling significantly warmer than the actual recorded temperatures. Citywide readings from various weather stations showed variation, with the official station recording a temperature of 37.5°C and humidity at 51 per cent.
Other readings included 38.5°C in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 37.5°C at Jinnah Terminal, 36.5°C in Mauripur, 35.5°C along Shahrah-e-Faisal, and 33°C in Bin Qasim.
The PMD’s early warning forecast also indicated the likelihood of stronger winds in Karachi in the coming days. Despite this, the department confirmed that the rural districts of Sindh remain under intense heatwave conditions.
“The temperature in Shaheed Benazirabad rose to 49°C on Thursday, which is 8.4°C above the seasonal average,” the statement added.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions against heatstroke and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, especially during peak afternoon hours.
