Pop star Tate McRae is facing criticism after hinting at a possible collaboration with country artist Morgan Wallen, with fans expressing disappointment on social media.
The speculation began when McRae posted an Instagram Story featuring an orange sports jersey marked with “T8” and “MW,” leading many to conclude she may be the female artist featured on Wallen’s upcoming album I’m The Problem, due 16 May.

Wallen had previously teased that the album would include a duet with a female artist, stating no one had guessed correctly. McRae’s post immediately drew attention and backlash, particularly from fans unhappy with the potential pairing due to Wallen’s past controversies and the stark genre contrast.
Morgan Wallen has faced ongoing controversy, most recently drawing attention for abruptly leaving the stage during Saturday Night Live on 29 March 2025, leaving cast members and viewers confused.
This incident follows a string of past issues, including a 2024 arrest for reckless endangerment after allegedly throwing a chair from a rooftop bar, and widespread backlash in 2021 for using a racial slur caught on video. Wallen has also been penalised for breaking COVID-19 protocols during a planned SNL appearance in 2020 and faced earlier arrests for disorderly conduct and suspected DUI.
Social media reactions were swift and pointed, highlighting the perceived reputational risk and the disconnect between McRae’s current image and the collaboration.

While McRae has not commented on the reaction, Wallen remains silent on the specific identity of his duet partner. He is currently promoting a new track with Post Malone, “I Ain’t Comin’ Back,” set to release 18 April.
Wallen’s album includes titles like “Lies Lies Lies” and “Love Somebody,” and will debut during the Sand in My Boots Festival in Alabama, which features artists across genres including Post Malone, Brooks & Dunn, Diplo, and T-Pain.
