Water tanker kills motorcyclist in Karachi
A motorcyclist was killed after being struck by a water tanker in Karachi’s Saadi Town on Wednesday, local police said, marking yet another fatal traffic incident in the city.
According to officials, the motorcyclist, identified as Tanveer, died at the scene. His body was transferred to a nearby hospital for legal formalities.
The driver of the water tanker fled immediately after the accident. Police confirmed an investigation is underway to locate the suspect.
The accident adds to a growing list of deadly road mishaps in Karachi. Authorities say the city has seen a sharp rise in traffic fatalities this year.
Moreover, earlier this week, the driver of a runaway dumper truck that evaded Karachi traffic police and endangered public safety on Sharea Faisal has surrendered and been arrested, police confirmed on Monday.
The incident, captured in a widely circulated video, showed a dumper ramming a police vehicle and fleeing the scene.
The footage sparked outrage online and prompted a citywide crackdown on dumpers and heavy transport vehicles.
According to police, the arrested driver claimed he was being chased by motorcyclists and feared his vehicle would be torched — a response to recent mob violence triggered by road accidents involving heavy vehicles.
According to a report from the Chhipa Welfare Association, over 260 people have been killed in traffic accidents across Karachi in 2025, while nearly 1,500 others have been injured.
Many of these accidents have involved cargo vehicles and water tankers, with several incidents prompting citizens to attack and burn heavy vehicles in retaliation.
Officials have urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement to carry out investigations.
