Tyson Fury likely retired for good, says Bob Arum
Promoter Bob Arum believes Tyson Fury will not return to boxing, following the British heavyweight’s latest retirement in January after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
The 36-year-old former champion announced his retirement just weeks after his second defeat to Usyk, who now holds the WBA (Super), WBC and WBO titles. While Fury has previously reversed retirement decisions, Arum, who formerly promoted him, expects this one to be permanent.
“If I was a betting man I would say he will never fight again,” Arum told the 5 Live Boxing podcast with Steve Bunce. “Marvin Hagler had an expression—‘a rich guy who goes to bed wearing silk pyjamas doesn’t get up in the morning to do road work’.”
“Tyson, really, I don’t think wants to get up in the morning and do road work and go through the experience of having to train when economically he doesn’t have to do it any more.”
Fury last fought in the UK in 2022 when he defeated Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His most recent three bouts took place in Saudi Arabia, where he twice lost to Usyk—first ending his 15-year unbeaten streak in May, then suffering another defeat in their December rematch.
Despite his retirement, speculation about a potential comeback continues. Footage of Fury training in his personal gym has prompted fans to question whether he might return to the ring.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently claimed the long-anticipated domestic bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua could still happen, if Fury reaches out.
Fury ends his career with 34 wins, one draw, and two losses—all against Usyk.
