‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will bring back classic Marvel vibes, says Anthony Mackie
Marvel fans, get ready for a throwback to the golden era of the MCU.
According to Anthony Mackie, Avengers: Doomsday is set to reignite the magic that made the franchise a global phenomenon. In a recent interview with IGN, Mackie, who most recently suited up as Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World, opened up about the excitement surrounding the upcoming film.
“We’re supposed to go out this week, and we’ll be out there doing it,” Mackie said.
“Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great.”
That’s right—the Russo Brothers, the visionary duo behind some of Marvel’s biggest blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, are back in the director’s chair for Doomsday.
Mackie added, “I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”
And judging by the cast, that “old Marvel feeling” might just be an understatement.
The film boasts an incredible mix of returning heroes and legacy characters from across the MCU and Marvel’s mutant universe.
Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor, joined by Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres (aka the new Falcon), Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, and Paul Rudd reprising his fan-favorite role as Ant-Man. In a major twist, Robert Downey Jr. is back—but not as Tony Stark.
This time, he’ll be playing the iconic villain Victor Von Doom, marking one of the most buzzed-about casting moves in recent superhero film history.
The Doomsday lineup doesn’t stop there. In a true crossover of Marvel worlds, several stars from the original X-Men films will be joining the epic showdown:
Patrick Stewart as Professor X
Ian McKellen as Magneto
Kelsey Grammer as Beast
Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler
James Marsden as Cyclops
Rebecca Romijn as Mystique
Channing Tatum will also reprise his role as Gambit, following his long-awaited debut as the mutant in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
The film is slated for release on May 1, 2026, and is expected to be a massive chapter in Marvel’s next saga.
But before Avengers: Doomsday arrives, fans can look forward to two more major MCU installments: Thunderbolts on May 2, 2025, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25, 2025.
With the promise of legacy, nostalgia, and a star-studded roster, Avengers: Doomsday could be the film that reignites the MCU’s spark—and Anthony Mackie’s words are only adding to the hype.
