Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for Another Simple Favor, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 mystery-comedy thriller. Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick return as stylish and suspicious frenemies, with the sequel set amid a lavish wedding in Italy.

Lively reprises her role as Emily Nelson, now recently out of jail and engaged to a wealthy Italian man played by Michele Morrone. Kendrick’s character, Stephanie Smothers, is once again drawn into a world of secrets and deception as she accepts Emily’s invitation to be her maid of honour.

The film, directed by Paul Feig, also stars Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Alex Newell, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney. It will premiere on Prime Video on 1 May and opened the 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival earlier this year.

However, the release has been accompanied by behind-the-scenes tension. Amazon disabled YouTube comments on the trailer, a move seen as an effort to protect Lively amid her ongoing legal dispute with It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni. Lively has filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment, emotional distress, and invasion of privacy. Baldoni has denied the claims and responded with countersuits.

This strategic decision by the studio appears to be an effort to shield Lively from online backlash while promoting her return to one of her most iconic roles.

Despite the legal drama, excitement around the film remains strong. The original A Simple Favor earned $97 million globally and became a streaming favourite.
