Josh Holloway is set to take on the lead role in the upcoming Western film Flint, based on Louis L'Amour's bestselling novel. Holloway, best known for his roles in Lost and Yellowstone, will portray James Kettleman, an East Coast businessman caught in a violent range war while building a relationship with rancher Nancy Kennigan.

“This is a story I’ve wanted to tell for years,” Holloway, 55, told Deadline. “To play this incredible role and help bring it to the screen as a producer makes this project even more special. It'll be a new challenge, but one I am all in on.”

Production for Flint is scheduled to begin in New Mexico later this year, although a release date has not yet been set. Holloway is not only starring in the film but is also serving as a producer. The film will be directed by Ryan Whittaker, who has previously worked on After (2012) and Surprised by Oxford (2022). Whittaker expressed his excitement about adapting L'Amour's action-packed novel, calling it an honor to bring the emotionally complex story to life.

Known for his roles on television in shows like Cougar Town and Colony, Holloway also has experience in the Western genre, having appeared as the antagonist Roarke Morris in Yellowstone seasons three and four.

The novel Flint, first published in 1960, has never been adapted for the screen before. The story follows James Kettleman, who returns to New Mexico, where he is diagnosed with cancer, and becomes involved in a range war while helping a local rancher save her land.

Holloway expressed his excitement for the project, sharing his casting announcement on Instagram, calling it an honor to bring one of his favorite Western stories to life.
