Another international player opts out of HBL PSL X
Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has officially withdrawn from the 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), with Islamabad United confirming the development ahead of their opening clash against Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi.
Carey, who was signed as a partial replacement for South African batter Rassie van der Dussen, will not be available for the tournament due to domestic cricket commitments in Australia.
The Islamabad United management revealed the news on Friday, hours before the team’s first PSL 10 fixture.
The defending champions are set to begin their title defence against Lahore Qalandars today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
With Carey opting out, the squad will look forward to van der Dussen’s return, as confirmed by the franchise.
The 10th edition of the PSL features six teams competing in 34 matches from April 11 to May 18. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is scheduled to host 13 matches, including two Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi will host 11 matches, with the first Qualifier set for May 13, while five matches each will be played in Karachi and Multan.
The tournament also includes three double-headers — two on Saturdays and one on Labour Day, May 1.
Islamabad United’s squad for PSL 10 includes Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Matthew Short, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Jason Holder, Haider Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Ben Dwarshuis, Colin Munro, Rumman Raees, Andries Gous, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Irshad, Hunain Shah, Saad Masood, Rassie van der Dussen, Riley Meredith, and Sam Billings.
Islamabad United will aim to adjust quickly as they move forward without Carey but with the depth of talent available, the squad remains competitive as they seek to defend their title in the landmark PSL season.
