In response to the complete closure of routes leading to the General Post Office (GPO) due to the Mall Road Expansion project, Pakistan Post has launched a mobile postal service to facilitate citizens.
The service was formally inaugurated and is now operational in four key locations with high daily footfall including Liaquat Bagh Chowk, Chungi No 22, Chohar Chowk, and near PC Hotel.
Chief Postmaster Asma Noreen inaugurated the mobile service and said it was launched in response to public and business community demand to ensure uninterrupted access to essential postal services.
The mobile counters will offer urgent mail service, cash on delivery, registered mail, and parcel services from 9am to 4pm at the designated points, with dedicated staff deployed.
The initiative has already seen a heavy rush of customers, particularly traders and shopkeepers.
However, traffic congestion is growing around the service points due to long queues of vehicles and motorcycles.
A GPO spokesperson noted that additional mobile service locations will be introduced in phases until traffic flow on Mall Road is fully restored. The road closures had rendered the GPO inaccessible, causing Pakistan Post daily losses worth millions of rupees and halting ticket sales and parcel bookings - both of which have now resumed.
