New teams are eager to join the PSL, with CEO Salman Naseer stating that personalities from both Pakistan and the United States have shown interest in buying franchises.
He mentioned that after the valuation and once the necessary data is collected, they will assess the financial models of these potential teams. It is too early to comment on the price of new teams.
For financial matters regarding Multan Sultans, it is better to ask them directly, but other teams must be making profits.
He also emphasized that matches should definitely be held abroad, but there has been no thought of a match between the PSL and IPL champion teams yet. This can be considered once conditions improve.
In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Salman Naseer mentioned that some work is ongoing regarding new teams, but after the current edition, progress will speed up. They are collecting data, and valuation is still to be done. In a few months, they will be able to make further decisions.
Regarding the question of whether a new team could be sold for 2 billion rupees annually, he said it is too early to say, and once the valuation is completed, they will assess their financial models and make a more accurate judgment. He added that for financial matters related to Multan Sultans, it would be better to ask them directly, but other teams must be making profits.
The league's growth has improved every year, with each sale of different rights bringing in more money than before, which is then distributed among the franchises. Every year the situation improves for all teams, and it will continue to get better.
He further said that a lot of people here are showing interest in new teams, but when he and PCB Mohsin Naqvi visited the USA, some individuals there also expressed interest in acquiring franchises. It was a great pleasure to see such enthusiasm for the PSL abroad.
The CEO stated that the league has become a global brand, and they need to reach fans beyond Pakistan. Therefore, hosting matches abroad is something that should definitely happen, but no decision has been made yet on this matter.
When asked about the possibility of a match between the PSL and IPL champion teams, Salman Naseer said they haven't considered it yet. This idea could be looked at once the conditions improve.
He emphasized that the cricket calendar has become so busy that it is not possible to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Due to this year's Champions Trophy, they couldn't hold the PSL in its traditional window and had to schedule it during the IPL window. They didn't want to reduce the number of matches, and their desire was to ensure the availability of foreign players as well. This has benefits as well, because neutral fans, who love cricket beyond India and Pakistan, will now have two events to choose from, deciding which match to watch on which channel. PSL has always offered competitive cricket, with many matches going down to the last over, and the quality of play has remained high.
The production of the event has also been continuously improved. They expect that, despite the challenges, unique opportunities will also arise.
