Islamabad United’s head coach, Mike Hesson, has expressed his belief that the team must improve upon their performance from last season as they head into the 2025 HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign.
"We know this time we need to perform better compared to last year," Hesson said in a recent interview. He acknowledged that the team handled the challenges of the previous season well but highlighted that the upcoming season will bring even more obstacles to overcome.
In his comments, Hesson emphasized the importance of managing expectations from the team's supporters. "Now, we need to deal with more challenges and manage the expectations of our supporters," he added.
Training is being approached with a match-focused mentality, with the team preparing on a daily basis. "We are training with the mindset of understanding each match on a daily basis," said Hesson.
Islamabad United's training camp for HBL PSL 10 began on Monday.
The coach also expressed his enthusiasm about leading Islamabad United. "I am very excited to coach Islamabad United," he said. "There are many talented players in the squad, and we have high expectations for this season."
Hesson spoke highly of the emerging players in the squad, revealing that the team has pinned hopes on three young talents. "We have high expectations from the three emerging players we picked," he noted, naming Mohammad Shehzad, Saad Masood, and Haneen Shah as players with the potential to make a significant impact.
Hesson also highlighted the form of top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan. "Sahibzada Farhan is in excellent form, his performance in domestic cricket has been outstanding," he remarked. Farhan, he added, has also been performing well in training, with the team placing significant expectations on him in the top order.
With the squad in good shape and the team gearing up for the new season, Hesson's focus remains on adapting to the challenges ahead as Islamabad United aims to make a strong impact in PSL 2025.
