The search for the next James Bond continues to spark intense speculation as producers reportedly consider a younger actor to lead a franchise reboot set in the 1960s.

With Daniel Craig’s final outing in No Time to Die now a few years behind, the identity of the new 007 remains unconfirmed, but several British actors have emerged as favourites.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains a frontrunner after reportedly impressing producers during a secret audition. Known for his roles in Kick-Ass and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Taylor-Johnson reportedly filmed the iconic gun-barrel teaser scene and continues to attract strong insider support.

Pierce Brosnan recently endorsed Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a strong choice for the next James Bond, praising his performance in The Greatest. The former 007 said Taylor-Johnson "filled the space with passion and energy" and would be "very good" in the role.

Theo James, recognised for The White Lotus and The Gentlemen, also remains in the mix despite downplaying rumours. His charismatic, morally complex characters have led many to consider him ideal for the modern Bond archetype.

Josh O’Connor, recently acclaimed for Challengers, has denied any official contact but continues to be linked with the role due to his critical success and leading-man appeal.

Lucien Laviscount, known for Emily in Paris, expressed open interest, stating, “If the Bond phone call came in, you don’t turn that down.” His sharp looks and screen charm make him one of the rising names in the conversation.

Regé-Jean Page from Bridgerton is still considered a top candidate. Despite stating that the role “does not occupy his thoughts,” his brooding presence and quiet intensity suit the role of a rebooted, emotionally complex Bond.

Henry Cavill remains a fan-favourite to play James Bond, having previously auditioned for the role in Casino Royale (2006). Director Martin Campbell praised his performance, calling it “tremendous,” but noted Cavill looked too young at the time. Now aged 41 and with major roles in The Witcher and Man of Steel under his belt, Cavill brings both physical presence and global star power.

Other strong contenders include Callum Turner (The Boys in the Boat), Stuart Martin (Jamestown), and James Norton (McMafia), each bringing action experience and depth. Richard Madden, while praised for his work in Bodyguard and Game of Thrones, has said it’s “all talk” but remains a fan favourite.

Producers are reportedly planning an origin story to reimagine Bond’s beginnings in a Cold War-era setting. This direction may favour younger actors capable of committing to a long-term role.

As speculation builds, the next Bond must meet the challenge of balancing legacy, modern relevance, and fan expectations.
