RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has prepared a proposal for a ring road project and requested funds for this purpose.

The ring road is part of a plan to improve the city, said Makeen Shahbaz, Director General, RDA.

“The main roads of the city like Rawal Road, Dhoke Khabba, Circular Road and Murree Road are being carpeted. Construction of a commercial parking plaza at Fawara Chowk costing about Rs190 million will begin next week,” he said.

The parking complex will hopefully resolve parking problems at Liaquat Road, Raja Bazar, Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazar, Bara Bazar, Sabzi Mandi, Ganjmandi, Kashmiri Bazar, City Saddar Road, Iqbal Road, Trunk Bazar and Moti Bazar.

“All intersections of the city will reflect the culture of Punjab and the Potohar region, and all work will be done on a self-help basis,” Shahbaz added. Decorative models have already been installed at Marir Chowk, Liaquat Bagh and Asghar Mall Chowk, as well as at the dividers of Benazir Bhutto Road.

Extension and remodelling of Dhoke Khabba Road, which will link and reduce the distance between Murree
Road and the airport, is underway. “A tax-free budget has been prepared for RDA,” Shahbaz said.
