Han Jong-Hee, a prominent executive at Samsung Electronics, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63.

Han, who had a significant role in transforming Samsung into the world’s top television manufacturer, died after being treated for a heart attack at a hospital.

Joining Samsung in 1988, Han spent much of his career working in television-related divisions, where his leadership played a key role in the company’s dominance in the TV market.

He was appointed co-vice chairman and CEO in 2022, overseeing both consumer electronics and mobile device operations.

Samsung, a global leader in technology, operates under dual CEO leadership for its two major business units—consumer products and semiconductor divisions.

Following Han's passing, Jun Young Hyun, the company’s semiconductor division CEO, will assume Han’s responsibilities as the sole CEO.

On the other hand, According to market research firm Omdia, Samsung maintained its position as the global TV market leader in 2024, with a 28.3% market share.

This marks the 19th consecutive year Samsung has held the top spot since 2006. The company’s continued success is attributed to its focus on premium and ultra-large screen innovations, alongside AI-powered TVs.

Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, credited the company’s success to customer trust and support, and expressed their commitment to shaping the future of the TV industry with innovative products and services.
