Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Sunday stated that the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif should fulfill his promises regarding various development projects for Karachi.
He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement- Pakistan (MQM-P) should clarify its policy regarding local government powers.
He also stated that he has received a letter from Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, and will reply soon.
Wahab emphasised that municipal issues of the Old City areas will be addressed on a priority basis. He described Karachi's Old City area as the foundation of the metropolis.
Mayor expressed these views while inaugurating the development works around the Macchi Miani Market. Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, PPP leader Javed Nagori, Director General (DG) Works Tariq Mughal, elected local government representatives and local leaders of the PPP were also present on the occasion.
Wahab stated that the biggest problem in the area was sewerage, which has now been resolved. He urged the Sindh Governor to step out of Sehri and Iftar gatherings and visit the city to witness its issues firsthand. He, while referring to the governor further stated that "Being a representative of the federation, I hope that, he will fulfill the promise of getting Rs100 billion from the federation for the city's development".
Furthermore, he urged the MQM to clarify its stance on local government powers, noting that while they previously supported decentralisation, they now advocate for the Pakistan Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (PIDCL) to handle city projects instead of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
He concluded by stating that Pakistan's national interests cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
