Pakistan shatter T20I powerplay record thanks to Mohamad Haris, Hasan Nawaz

Pakistan smashed their highest-ever powerplay score in T20Is, racing to 75-1 in the third match against New Zealand.

Pakistan stormed to their highest-ever powerplay total in T20I history, amassing 75-1 in the first six overs against New Zealand in the third T20I on Friday.

The aggressive start was spearheaded by Mohammad Haris, who smashed 41 off just 20 balls, dispatching boundaries with ease before falling to Jacob Duffy. Hasan Nawaz carried the momentum forward, ensuring Pakistan capitalised on the fielding restrictions.

Haris and Nawaz combined for a 74-run opening stand in just 5.5 overs, setting the foundation for a dominant batting display. Even after Haris’ dismissal, Pakistan maintained their attacking approach, crossing 100 runs in just 8.1 overs.

Even at the 10-over mark, Pakistan's 124-1 was the highest score they had ever achieved at this rate of an innings in T20I history.

Nawaz went on to score a blistering 105 off 45 balls, striking 10 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 233.33. He was well-supported by captain Salman Agha, who contributed an unbeaten 51 off 31 balls.

The duo’s partnership powered Pakistan to 207-1 in just 16 overs, maintaining a run rate of 12.93.

Nawaz's knock was the fastest century by a Pakistani batter in T20Is, breaking the previous record set by Babar Azam.

New Zealand’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Kyle Jamieson conceding 54 runs in his four overs, while Duffy, despite picking up the only wicket, went for 37 in three.

Pakistan’s record-breaking powerplay set the tone for a commanding performance, paving the way for their comeback in the T20I leg of the series.
