Row over ex-official's PSL role
Questions have been raised over the appointment of a former franchise official in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).
This woman previously associated with Multan Sultans now has been appointed as a Senior Manager without any advertisement. Some teams have objected to the appointment, calling it a conflict of interest.
On the other hand, PCB has stated that the consultancy appointment is temporary for three months, hence no advertisement was necessary. Meanwhile, sources claim that two PCB directors are set to join Multan Sultans soon.
According to details, Salman Naseer was recently removed from his role as PCB's Chief Operating Officer (COO) and appointed as PSL's CEO. He is currently working to ensure the smooth organization of the league's tenth edition.
A senior manager was recently appointed, who had previously become the first female General Manager of Multan Sultans in August 2023. However, due to certain "reasons," both parted ways. She then joined the state-run television channel, but her contract ended, and now she has been given a role in the PSL. Surprisingly, no advertisement was issued for the position.
Some franchises have expressed concerns, believing this falls under a conflict of interest. They argue that if a franchise employee is given a PSL position and later returns to a franchise, maintaining confidentiality could be challenging.
When contacted, a PCB spokesperson stated that the appointment was made for a short-term consultancy role of three months, so an advertisement was not required. The spokesperson further clarified that the individual was not a permanent employee of Multan Sultans and is not assuming a senior position in PSL, so a "cooling-off period" (a break between jobs) was unnecessary.
