Water supply network approved for Model Jail

Authority also approves PC-2 for Islamabad Water Project

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved PC-1 for the installation of a water supply network in Model Jail H-16, Islamabad, along with PC-2 for the Islamabad Water project, the city's water and sewerage utility.

A meeting of CDA's Development Working Party (DWP) was held on Tuesday in this regard. Officials from the Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Division, the Ministry of Interior, the Finance Division, CDA board members, and officials from other relevant departments attended the meeting.

The PC-1 project for the "Installation of Water Supply Network for Model Jail H-16 Islamabad," worth Rs248.989 million, was approved. The project aims to provide drinking water to both the Model Jail and the Jinnah Medical Complex in Sector H-16. According to sources, the federal cabinet had approved the establishment of Islamabad Water in October 2024. During the one-year interim period, CDA required technical assistance to stabilise Islamabad Water, which led to the approval of the PC-2.

It has been reported that the construction of Islamabad Model Jail H-16 has been delayed for several years. On the directives of the current government, work on the project has been expedited. The project was approved by the previous government of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), but work on it was halted. However, the current government has now decided to complete the project on a priority basis. Around 75 per cent of the jail's construction has already been completed, but the project may still face delays.
