Bhatti murder case: ‘Suspects to be deported from Dubai’

Suspects of Shahbaz Bhatti’s murder case will be brought to Pakistan with the help of Interpol: Police.

ISLAMABAD:

The top cop of the city on Thursday told a minorities’ affairs delegation that the two suspects of Shahbaz Bhatti’s murder case, presently in Dubai, will be brought to Pakistan with the help of Interpol as perpetual warrants for their arrest have been issued by the anti-terrorism court.

They were also declared as proclaimed offenders by the court, added the Inspector General of Police, Bani Amin.

However, a police official closely associated with investigations into the case told The Express Tribune that suspects Zia-ur-Rehman and Malik Abid were just being deported for questioning.

“To take them as prime suspects would be wrong. We have no evidence at present to suggest that they were involved in murdering the former minorities’ minister although they did have certain issues with him,” said the officer.

Both suspects belonged to Faisalabad, the slain minister’s native city and they had differences with Bhatti over property issues.

“But they were not capable of carrying out an assassination of such a high-level target,” said the official.
