Chamber president critiques government over Ramazan inflation
Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry
The Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) President Muhammad Saleem Memon, has urged price control authorities to take measures for the mitigation of inflation in Ramazan. He claimed that instead of controlling prices the administration is unjustly targeting traders with unwarranted fines and penalties.
Memon highlighted that many Muslim and non-Muslim countries have offered special subsidies on essential commodities during Ramazan to ease the burden of inflation but that the situation in Pakistan remains quite the opposite. He claimed that the issue lies with government negligence as well as disruption of the supply chain, and further, that the government failed to implement an effective price stability strategy for Ramazan.
Memon urged the government to take action against elements creating artificial shortages and to provide subsidies on essential goods.
Further, he expressed concern over the soaring prices of flour, ghee, edible oil, sugar, rice, meat, milk, and other essential items, along with vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, and potatoes.
