Guard dies in attack targeting PPP lawmaker in Ghotki

Unidentified armed men opened fire on the convoy of Sindh Assembly member Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar in Ghotki district on Sunday. While the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker remained unhurt, his guard succumbed to bullet wounds, and three others sustained injuries.

According to Ghotki police, the attack occurred on a link road near Batri Wahi, within the limits of Kainjho police station. As a result of the firing, one of Dahar's bodyguards, Zafar Dahar, was killed, while his friend Asad Shah, Chanesar Dundho, and driver Akhtar Pathan were injured.

Media reports quoted Ghotki Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Samiullah Soomro as saying that the lawmaker was attacked at 1:45 pm while he was on his way Ghotki attack from Page 1

to his agricultural fields. Soomro told the media that Jam Mehtab remained "safe" during the attack.

Following the incident, Soomro, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ubauro and police station house officers (SHOs) from the Ubauro sub-division, visited the crime scene and conducted a technical examination. The injured were rushed to Daharki Hospital for treatment.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the attack and directed the Sindh police chief to immediately arrest those responsible. A spokesperson confirmed that the chief minister strongly condemned the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. In a statement from his office, he instructed the police to assign the investigation to an expert and experienced officer. He said he should be kept informed about any developments.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack on Dahar's convoy and expressed grief over the death of his guard. Zardari called for a thorough investigation and swift action against those responsible.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also denounced the attack and extended his condolences over the loss of life. He prayed for the early recovery of the injured and reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of public representatives. (WITH INPUTS FROM APP)
