Rehmat Begum's quest for divorce ends in tragedy

A woman was slaughtered allegedly by her husband at a hotel on Saturday, while in a separate incident police found the body of a woman who is suspected to have committed suicide.

As per details, 35-year-old Erum, mother of three children, was found dead in a room of a private hotel within the remits of Tipu Sultan police station. Preliminary investigation revealed that Erum had suffered a fatal neck wound.

Police said quoting hotel staff that loud screams were heard from the room. When hotel staff rushed to the room, they found Erum's naked body, while the suspect had already fled. The body was rushed to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Police suspect Erum's husband, Adil, a butcher by profession, has committed the crime. Police believe that Adil used a knife, probably brought from his meat shop on Burns Road. The police found the murder weapon from the scene.

The suspect remains at large.

In a second incident, the body of 30-year-old Lameela was found at her home in the Old Kumhar Wara area of Lyari within the jurisdiction of Napier police station.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Lameela's death may have been the result of a suicide over some domestic issues.

Meanwhile, a man killed his wife and injured daughter with a sharp-edge object outside Malir court alledgedly for filing for divorce. The police apprehended the accused, identified as Sarwar, and shifted the body of the deceased and injured daughter to Jinnah Hospital. The police also recovered the murder weapon.

The deceased, identified as 45-year-old Rehmat Begum, had filed for divorce at the Malir Court with the hearing scheduled for Saturday. While leaving the court, arguments ensued between the husband and wife, during which the husband, in a fit of rage, attacked Rehmat Begum with a sharp-edge object. The deceased suffered a deep wound near ribs that proved fatal.

Their 19-year-old daughter Rabia also sustained injuries while saving her mother. The victim was a mother of four children, while the killer husband worked as a baker.
